Hustle and Heart set us apart.

In 2017, we formed the first ever all-girls Rugby 7s team at Surfers Paradise Dolphins. Since then, our teams have won plenty of games and learnt lessons from the ones we have lost– but no one is counting, and we’re not playing for sheep stations! The great thing about Girls Rugby 7s at Surfers Dolphins is every player gets plenty of time on the field to grow (even 17-year-old beginners).

Some of our teammates had never touched a Rugby ball before, some have played in a boys team since U6, and some were born with rugby in their blood – their dad proudly watching them donning the green and gold as a second or third generation Dolphin. But, we all LOVE the game and know we will always be part of this Rugby Family.

Under 13 to Open Womens

Uniforms, Training & Game Day info...

This year, our incredible partners BLK have sponsored all our team uniforms from Juniors through to Seniors. All Girls Rugby 7s players receive a FREE club training shirt and polo shirt as part of their club membership. A numbered match jersey will be supplied to each player on game night and returned to the team Manager at the end of the game – Club shorts ($30) & Club socks ($15) are available to purchase from the club. All players need to provide their own compulsory mouth guard, boots and optional headgear/body armour.

  • Surfers Paradise Rugby Union Club is used six nights a week during the rugby season by Junior, Senior and Rugby 7s teams. Individual team coaches determine how many sessions and when practices will be. Players (and parents) are notified of training sessions and times by their team Manager. The girls Rugby 7s teams all train on Tuesday and Thursday nights – Follow your team on Team App / Facebook / email for the most up-to-date information.

  • Surfers Paradise Girls Rugby 7s teams (U13, U15, U17 & Opens) play two games each week against other Gold Coast District Rugby Union Clubs, mainly on Friday nights and the occasional Saturday Carnival, starting from April through until August in 2019. Your team Manager will notify you each week of the upcoming game time and location – Team Ladders and fixtures information for the season will be available and regularly updated on the Rugby Link website.

  • Some Pre-season club days and games are organised to promote our club and to encourage a good rugby experience. However, coaches of individual teams are ultimately responsible for ensuring their players are match fit and prepared for the season ahead.

  • The first games of GCDRU Women 7s competition are scheduled to start on Friday 26 April through to Friday 24 August, with a short break in the middle for June/July school holidays. This year there will be one competition (season) consisting of a combination of Friday night games and 3 x Tournaments on a Saturday. The draw for 2019 Girls 7s teams will be available on the Rugby Link website before the Easter weekend and should be checked regularly for unexpected late changes. Dates for Saturday Tournaments will also be made available prior to commencement of the competition.

  • Each year there is a selection of 7s Carnival days after the GCDRU season has finished. Your team Manager will notify you of any upcoming tournaments and locations, these are an additional cost to your club membership and team entry will depend upon player interest.

  • All registrations are completed online using the Rugby Link system. There is no option to register outside of Rugby Link. Payments are made by credit or debit card and a 1.88% surcharge applies.

  • Our club accepts instalment payments. Families have the option to make three equal payments instead of one lump sum. The first payment is due at the time of registration with the remaining payments due one month and two months after the initial registration. Contact the Treasurer if wanting to pay by instalment.

  • The club is not offering options to play and pay for a half season.

  • Surfers Paradise Rugby Club recognises the financial contribution made by families who register multiple junior siblings and play with us. While full fees are required for the first registered junior player in any family, a $50 registration fee concession is available for each additional junior sibling registered.

Our Dedicated Rugby 7s Coaches and Managers

We’re extremely lucky at Surfers Paradise Rugby Union Club to have so many volunteer parents and ex-players committed to teaching Rugby 7s. Our coaches are some of the most qualified and experienced on the Gold Coast. All our coaches are Smart Rugby certified to ensure player safety and encouraged to pursue ARU Level 1 accreditation. Our club is unique in that we offer an induction and support program for new coaches.
